August 28, 1779

EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Aug. 28, 1779  Inside has reports concerning the Revolutionary War including: "...letter from Paris says, 'It is confirmed that the Court mean to send a supply of troops to the American armies. They will consist of about 12,000 men; 4000 of whom will embark for the Delaware...The season of hostilities begins to decline & we hear of no operations of our fleet.'...". Also: "...from Charlestown, South Carolina...more circumstantial & recent account of the southern army under Gen. Prevost...It appears that although Gen. Prevost met with no very considerable annoyance from the American army, it was with some distress & difficulty that he got to James's island...He then summoned the town to capitulate which was haughtily rejected..." and more (see).
Complete in 4 pages, folio size, some period notations in ads & their margins, very nice condition.
