THE PRESS TELEGRAPH, (no date nor city)
* Very rare movie prop issue
* Pat O'Brien's "Flight Lieutenant"
We've all seen newspapers used as props in movies, typically with a headline relating to the plot of the movie. Obviously created exclusively for the production of the movie, they are quite rare and seldom come on the collector's market--particular issues from the "golden age of Hollywood".
This issue was created as a prop for the movie "Flight Lieutenant" staring Pat O'Brien, done in 1942 (see hyperlink for more on the motion picture). The banner headline reads: "AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATE CRASH" and features a front page photo of "Sam Doyle", the leading character of the film, played by famed actor Pat O'Brien.
A four page issue printed on high quality newsprint, water staining to the upper left, some margin tears with archival mends to inside pages.
A fascinating rarity and a great item for any rare newspaper collection.
