December 18, 1841

NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Dec. 18, 1841  The back page features a quite lengthy report concerning the "Mutiny Of Slaves" on the ship Creole, a rather infamous event in American history. In this report, it also states: "...the slaves rose on them & murdered a passenger, Mr. John Hewell, owner of a portion of them, by stabbing him with a bowie knife..." (see photos).
Other reports within this issue include "Report of the Secretary of War" which takes over 4 pages; a report from Cuba on slave vessels and of the Texian expedition to Santa Fe which was captured by the Mexicans, among other items.
Complete 16 page issue, measures 8 1/2 by 12 inches and is in nice condition.

This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
