November 01, 1666

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, Nov. 1, 1666

* The great plague
* London fire report

Great content in this issue as the back page has a report concerning the rebuilding of London following the disastrous Great London Fire of less than two months previous, reading: "Sir George Moore, with some other Proprietors of houses lately demolished by the Fire in Fleet Street, having prayed liberty to rebuild the same, according to such model, form & scantling as should be set them by the Committee appointed by His Majesty for the advancement of that great work...That the said Proprietors should have liberty to re-edise their buildings accordingly." We have found it quite rare to find any period reference to the Great London Fire in London newspapers.
Also on the back page and at the very bottom is a report to the other great disaster of 1666, the Great Plague, with the account of the deaths from the previous week, noting: "The Account of the Weekly Bill runs thus. Buried of all diseases 220. Whereof of the Plague 14. Increased in the whole 10. Decreased of the Plague 2." (see).
Great to have mention of both the Great London Fire and the Great Plague in one newspaper. Complete as a single sheet newspaper, 6 3/4 by 11 inches, some margins tears at the right edge and a bit irregular at the right edge, otherwise rather nice.
