April 30, 1685

THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, April 30, 1685

* King Charles II death
* King James II coronation

Half of the front page is taken up with an address which concerns the recent death of King Charles II (see). The back page contains a report which begins: "Yesterday being the day for solemnizing the Coronation of their Majesties, the whole militia of this town was drawn up..." and a bit more on the celebration. And a report from yet another town begins: "This being the day of their Majesties happy Coronation, the inhabitants of this place, & the neighbouring gentry, form'd themselves into a compleat troop of horse & company of foot, & marching out of town..."  with more (see), followed by yet another reference to the coronation of James II and Mary, ending with: "...Royal Coronation, with all imaginable expressions of joy, the night concluding with bonfires & ringing of bells." There is also an interesting advertisement concerning the loss of some of the King's items at the coronation (see).
A single sheet newspaper, 6 1/2 by 11 inches, a small stain in the noted advertisement, generally nice condition.
