HERALD EXTRA, Newburyport, [Mass.] April 15, Two O'clock A terrific newspaper broadside announcing the assassination of President Lincoln. Printed on the front page only, all text relates to the assassination and the inauguration of Andrew Johnson with first column heads: "Appalling Circumstance!" "The PRESIDENT DEAD ! " "Escape Of the Murderer ! " "Attempt On the Life of Secretary Seward" "J. Wilkes Booth, the Actor, the Assassin". Further on there are subheads including: "Death of Mr. Lincoln Officially Announced", plus: "Concerning the Murderers" "Wilkes Booth Arrested" "Andrew Johnson Inaugurated" and "The Washington Tragedy".
A small size broadside measuring 8 1/8 by 12 1/4 inches, the margins seems to have been trimmed likely for framing, bit of scattered foxing, generally in nice condition.
