Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are very difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city which surrendered without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
Being a Sunday edition, the front page is manly taken up with literary items. Page 3 has "Loan for the Defense of the Confederate States" which is signed: C. G. Memminger, Secretary of the Treasury.
Pages 4 & 5 have a wide variety of item including ads, articles including: "The Great Delusion" "Letter From Washington" "Southern Trade With Europe" among others.
Pages 6, 7 and 8 are mostly taken up with ads.
Eight pages, some light foxing, generally in very nice, clean condition with minor binding slits at the spine margin.
