March 17, 1875

THE SAN DIEGO UNION, California, March 17, 1875

* Tiburcio Vásquez - California bandido
* Bloody Benders - serial killers
* Rare Old West title

An early newspaper from this now quite famous & large city in Southern California. The entire front page is taken up with ads. Inside has:  "Growth of the West" and an interesting article: "Vasquez" "How the Outlaw Views His Fate". This latter article is on the infamous outlaw Tiburcio Vasquez who would be executed in San Jose, Calif. on March 19th (see hyperlink for more on him).
Also, page 3 has a lengthy article: "BENDER" "The Old Man's Story" "His Identity Established Beyond Doubt" "Confession of Old John Bender, the Head of the Family of Cherry Vale (Kansas) Murders". This is a fascinating article on the leader of the "Bloody Benders" (see hyperlink for more).
Four pages, minor margin wear, bit of foxing, mostly good.
