DREWRY'S DERBY MERCURY, England, Feb. 20, 1783 

* Closing events in the Revolutionary War

The front page has a letter headed: "The Loyalists", with thoughts on them and the end of the Revolutionary War. Page 2 has reports from the: "House of Commons" which includes some discussion relating to the war.Also an item referencing a recent London Gazette issue: "This Gazette also contains a Proclamation declaring the Cessation of Arms...agreed upon between his Majesty, the Most Christian King, the King of Spain, the States General of the United provinces, and the United States of America; and enjoining the observance thereof."
Pg. 2 also has: "American Intelligence" which has: "Immediately on the embarkation of the King's troops at Charles Town the Rebel General Wayne, with about 5000 continental soldiers, took possession of the town...The Rebels were so extremely polite after the embarkation...as not to hoist the rebel standard for 3 days while the British fleet lay in the bay...That the enemy had made an attempt...to cut off the necessary supply of fresh water from the shipping..." with more.
The back page has more from the: "House of Commons" with: "Consideration of the Preliminary Articles of Peace" which takes nearly half of the page, with much detail. One ite notes: "...took a view of our late American possession at the commencement of the war, lamenting the loss of so large a portion of the Empire...The Articles with America, he asserted, were founded on principles of equity and reciprocity & had promoted a reconciliation between Great Britain and America..." with much more.
Four pages, folio size, bit of foxing, nice condition.
