A Confederate take on the "horror" of Fort Pillow...

Item # 615978

May 2, 1864

DAILY DISPATCH, Richmond, Virginia, May 2, 1864

* re. Fort Pillow Massacre
* General Nathan Forrest

A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page has: "History of the Capture of Plymouth, North Carolina" which takes a full column. Also: "The 'enemy on the York Peninsula" and: "The Orders In A Subjugated District--An Official Picture of Life Under the Enemy"  which includes several "Special Orders". Many more war-related items on the ftpg. as well.
Page 2 begins with an interesting editorial titled: "Fort Pillow--The Yankees Begin to Use It" which is an interesting Confederate take on the horrible butchery of Black soldiers. One bit notes: "...Yet the hullabaloo raised over Fort Pillow in the North is subserving a purpose. Lincoln needs a sensation to help him on at this time, & it comes in opportunely..." with much more.
Complete as a single sheet issue, a few minor archival mends to margins, very nice condition.
