* From the origin of the Civil War
* Guerrilla leader John Morgan
* Kentucky cavalry raid

Has "Confederate States Of America" printed in the masthead which is rarely seen on Southern newspapers from the Civil War. Front page war content: "From Richmond" includes a letter: "President Davis To General Lee". In his letter Davis mentions a cartel for the general exchange of prisoners that was signed between the Confederate States and the United States, and then states, in part: "...Scarcely had that cartel been signed when the military authorities of the United States commenced a practice, changing the character of the war...into a campaign of indiscriminate robbery and murder. The general order issued by the Sec. of War of the United States, takes the private property of our people for convenience and use of their army...the general order issued by Major Pope...direct the murder of our peaceful inhabitants as spies...and one of his Brigadier Generals...has seized upon innocent, peaceful inhabitants to be held as hostages...that they may be murdered...if any of his soldiers are killed by some unknown persons, whom he designates as Bushwhackers..." signed in type: Jefferson Davis.
Page 2 has a detailed report: "Morgan's Raid into Kentucky". Taking much of the back page are the: "Official Report of the Col. John H. Morgan", signed in type: John H. Morgan, & "The Battle of Secessionville" "Official Report Of Gen. Stevens", signed in type: Isaac J. Stevens.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, scattered foxing, generally good.
