Association of Professional Baseball Players is formed...

Item # 615282

March 18, 1871

NEW-YORK TRIBUNE, March 18, 1871

* National Association of Professional Base Ball Players

On the front page under "The Convention of Professional Base Ball Clubs" is a relative brief yet very historic report about the formation of the Association. The report includes: "The meeting of representatives from the professional clubs...resulted in establishing the 'National Association of Base Ball Players', and as they adopted the constitution, by-laws, and playing rules of the old National Association, they practically take the place of that institution. The clubs sending delegates included..." and what follows are the names, as well as the names of the officers who were elected. An important development in baseball concerning the professional status of players, plus it was considered the very first professional baseball league, although it is disputed by some (see hyperlink).
Great to have the content on the front page. Complete in 8 pages, very nice condition.
