April 25, 1874

BELLINGHAM BAY MAIL, Whatcom, Washington Territory, April 25, 1874

* Rare Old West title

This town of "Whatcom" no longer exists as a separate entity, having been absorbed into the city of Bellingham (along with 3 other smaller towns) in the 19th century. Whatcom is the name of the county in northwest Washington, on the Canadian border. This is the volume 1, number 43 issue and lasted for 6 years before being removed to LaConner in 1879 where the title changed to "Puget Sound Mail".
The front page has: "A 'Missing Link' " which begins: "Mr. Darwin's 'missing link' has at length been found, to judge from an account of dwarfish human beings, said to resemble a race of monkeys...On the island Borneo has been found a certain race of wild creatures..." with more (see).
Four pages, some period ink notations, an archival mend to the lower left margin on both leaves, but in overall nice condition.
