THE LONDON GAZETTE, England, May 4, 1776 Most of the front page has American content including the King's offer of a bounty to all who sign on to His Majesty's service in the British Navy (see). Also a report concerning the movements of General Howe, and yet another concerning him & his brother: "The King hath been pleased to order Letters Patent to be passed under the Great Seal of Great Britain, constituting & appointing Richard Lord Viscount Howe...and the Hon. William Howe, Esq.,Major General of His Majesty's Forces...to be Hi Majesty's commissioners for restoring peace to His Majesty's colonies & Plantations in North America & for granting pardon..." (see).
Page 2 has an address to the King which includes: "...and to express our abhorrence of the Rebellion now subsisting in your colonies in North America. The rebellion we consider an unnatural towards the Parent State & ungrateful..." (see).
Four pages, lower corner of the front leaf torn off not causing loss of text, 7 1/2 by 12 inches, otherwise good.
