THE EDINBURGH ADVERTISER, Scotland, Aug. 25, 1780

Page 3 includes: "The principal hope that the remains with respect to the reduction of America is briefly this: if Washington's army are completely beaten, Congress will at least accept, if not offer terms; without this there is but little shadow of an agreement with America short of independence." Elsewhere is: "take this opportunity of congratulating your Majesty on the late successes of your arms in North America, particularly in the reduction of the capital & province of South Carolina...the rebellion in America, that these deluded people may now be induced to return to their duty & allegiance & gratefully feel the blessings of the mildest government & most perfect constitution...be convinced that their union with, & dependence upon Great Britain is the most durable source of their security & happiness...".
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
