THE DAILY ADVERTISER, New York, Jan. 8, 1789  This was the nation's first capital with the creation of the federal government, where George Washington would be inaugurated within 4 months of this date. Page 2 has a report of a meeting of the Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen held at the home of Mr. Samuel Fraunces, owner of the famed Fraunces Tavern (see hyperlink). Included is the list of toasts which include to: "His Excellency George Washington" "The United States of America" and more (see).
The back pages has 16 illustrated ship ads and an illus. ad for a furniture maker (see). Four pages, very nice condition.
