March 27, 1862

APPEAL--EVENING EDITION Memphis, Tennessee, March 21, 1862

* Very rare Confederate title

A quite rare single sheet newspaper printed on a pink "necessity" paper, as typical newsprint was quite scarce in Memphis at this time. When regular newsprint was not available resourceful publisher would print on wrapping paper or any other typical of paper that was available.
Much war-related content including: "Our Position & Our Defenses" "Latest Northern News" "From Below" "The Federal Congress" "Committees of the Confederate Congress" listed the members by name; "Brilliant Exploit in the West!" "Capture of Federal Wagons & Stores!" "From Elizabeth City" "Later From New Madrid" and more.
Complete as a single sheet, never bound nor trimmed, 12 by 19 1/2 inches, there is loss at the margins but fortunately there is no loss to any type on either side, some minimal fold wear 7 foxing.
