The first issue published... Promoting the attributes of Colorado...

Item # 612883

May 10, 1884

GRAND JUNCTION NEWS, Mesa County, Colorado, May 10, 1884

* Very rare title
* Mesa County
* Volume 1 Number 1

A nice newspaper from this town in Western Colorado. Only 3 other institutions have any holdings of this title, one of them having just a single issue. This is the very first issue published: volume 1, number 1.
The front page has: "THE LAND WE LIVE IN!" "The New Colorado" "The Late Ute Reservation Open to Settlement" "A Territory Twice as Large as Massachusetts" "A Valley as Large as that of Salt Lake" "The Sunny Land of the Pacific Slope! Of the Farmer & Herdsman!" and more. This reads like a chamber of commerce promotion.
Four pages, some loss at the blank spine margin, generally nice condition.
