October 31, 1861

THE DAILY DELTA, New Orleans, Oct. 31, 1861

* Rare Confederate title
* From the deep South

Truly Confederate newspapers from New Orleans are difficult to find, as Admiral Farragut entered the mouth of the Mississippi in mid-April, 1862 and finally took New Orleans on April 28. Shortly thereafter Benjamin Butler moved in and took control of the city, it surrendering without a fight. So "Confederate" issues from New Orleans are limited to those published between Louisiana's secession from the Union on January 26, 1861 and the end of April, 1862, just a brief 15 month period.
The front page includes: "Black Republican Dispatches to the Northern Press" "Particulars of the Fight at Fredericktown, Mo." "From the Seat of War In Virginia" "Mr. Seward's Letter--Preparing for the Storm" and more. Inside has: "A Large Fleet Sails from Hampton Roads" "From Our Army In the West" and more.
Four pages, one small & old tape mend  to a page 2 margin, nice condition.
