THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1765 Among  the articles within are: "Useful Observations on the Intended Import of Timber from America" and "Defects of that Already Imported". Also: "Description of Vauxhall Gardens" which includes a nice foldout plate of it measuring 7 1/2 by 11 inches & is in nice condition (see photos).
Other items include: "Directions for Travelers to the Celestial Inns & Houses" "A Particular...Account of the Escape of Charles Edward Stuart, Commonly called the Young Chevalier, after the Battle of Culloden" which takes over 4 pages; "Observations of the Last Eclipse of the Sun" "Remarks on Dean Swift's Thoughts on Religion" "Some Account of Barny Carrol and Wm. King, lately Executed at Tyburn" and much more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" and "Remarkable Events" with the latest news of the day, including a bit beginning: "The House of Burgesses of Virginia...have come to the following resolution in consequence of the late taxation of the colonies..." (see photos). Also a half column headed "American News" which includes a report of a quarrel with Indians near  Fort Pitt (see photos).
The mentioned foldout plate is the only plate called for. Complete in 48 pages, 5 by 8 1/2 inches, full title/contents page with an engraving of St. John's Gate, in very nice condition.

A very nice magazine from the "mother country" from the year of the hated Stamp Act, with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
