February 09, 1865

THE DAILY PROGRESS, Raleigh, North Carolina, Feb. 9, 1865  Raleigh was one of the last major cities of the South to fall into the hands of Sherman, surrendering on April 13, 1865 just one day before Lincoln was assassinated. This rare Confederate title is from the latter months of the Civil War. The front page includes: "Official From Gen. Lee" which is a dispatch from him to Gen. S. Cooper signed in type: R. E. Lee, Gen.; Fight Near Petersburg" "Great War Meeting in Richmond--Speeches of President Davis & Gov. Smith" "Later From the North" "From Charleston" "From Richmond" and more.
The back page continues with much on: "War News" "War Rumors", an editorial on the latest on the war; "South Carolina--Proclamation from Gov. Magrath" and more.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, in very nice, clean condition.
