The last delivery of slaves to America...
Item # 612406
December 14, 1858
BOSTON EVENING TRANSCRIPT, December 14, 1858
* The Wanderer (slave ship) capture (1st report)
The bottom of the front page has a report with small heading: "Another Slaver Case--Africans Landed" with a Savannah dateline. This is an infamous ship, as the Wanderer's notoriety is that it delivered the last load of African slaves to America (see hyperlink for corroboration). The report begins: "The yacht Wanderer positively landed Africans near Brunswick.....A tug was dispatched to Brunswick to tow the Wanderer to Savannah...reported that the Collector of Darien states that the Wanderer has no appearance of having had slaves on board & that a steamer...took 150 & conveyed them past Savannah..." with more (see).
Other news of the day with several interesting advertisements. Complete in 4 pages, a little spine wear, nice condition.
