THE AMERICAN MUSEUM, (Philadelphia), Nov., 1788  Eighteenth century American magazines are quite rare, & this was one of the more successful titles from the period.
Included is a lengthy article: "A Series of Letters on Education. Ascribed to the Rev. John Witherspoon, President of Princeton College" which is a continued piece, taking 4 1/2 pgs. Also: "Letter from Lord Howe to Dr. Franklin" dated June 20, 1776 & signed by him: Howe. This is followed by Franklin's reply which takes more than a page & is signed in type: B. Franklin (see).
Also of significance is: "Essay On Negro Slavery, No. 1" which takes 3 pages and is signed: "Othello". As noted in this hyperlink, it was determined that "Othello" was a Negro.

Other items include: "Letter Relative to Negro Slavery" and "Message on Negro Slavery". Also: "Observations on the Constitution Proposed by the Federal Convention" (see for beginning) which takes over 4 pages.

A "Proclamation" signed by: John Dickinson, calling for the proper observance of Sundays being set apart as a day free from domestic and governmental pursuits, and given to the pursuit of God is quite interesting.

Also included is the 10 page article: "Observations on Capital Punishment", it being an anonymous lengthy response to Dr. Benjamin Rush's essay on this topic which appeared in the July, 1788 issue ("An Enquiry into the Justice and Policy of Punishing Murder by Death") - continued in the December issue.

The historic 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th letters of "The Pennsylvania Farmer's Letters by the Hon. John Dickinson" are also present, taking over 16 pages.

Near the back is: "American intelligence" with news reports from Boston, Charleston, Philadelphia and a letter from Georgia concerning relations with the Indians. The bkpg. is the table of contents (see).
