April 15, 1865

BANGOR DAILY EVENING TIMES, Maine, April 15, 1865

* Abraham Lincoln assassination (1st report)
* Ford's Theater - John Wilkes Booth

This nice small folio size newspaper ha some of the better column heads on the Lincoln assassination I have seen, including: "TERRIBLE NEWS" "PRESIDENT LINCOLN ASSASSINATED." "Assassination of Sec. Seward!" "Almost Miraculous Escape of General Grant" "Particulars of the Assassination" as well as: "Official!" "THE PRESIDENT DEAD!" "He Expired at 7:22 This Morning" "His Murderer Known!" and more (see).
Page 2 has a lengthy editorial headed: "Our National "Calamity", and the back page has further news concerning the assassination including: "The Murderer of the President Captured!" "Later!" "Booth Not Captured" "Extraordinary Efforts to Catch the Assassins" "The Evidence Certain that John Wilkes Booth Assassinated the President!" and more.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, inside has old tape stain at corners & margins from having once been framed, some archival  mends, some wear at folds causing minor perforation. A great issue for display with these dramatic headlines.
