THE CRISIS, Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1862
* Arming Negroes ?
* Ambrose Burnside
* Jefferson Davis
Among the many war-related column heads are: "Our War a Party War" "The Horrors In Missouri" "War News of the Week" "The Negro Question" "President's Message" "Petition Against the Importation of Free Negroes into Ohio" "Gen. Burnside the New Commander of the Army of the Potomac"; a letter to Lt. Gen. Holmes signed in type by the President of the Confederacy: Jefferson Davis; and much more.
Described as "The Hottest Rebel Sheet to be found in the North or the South", this newspaper opposed the war and attracted the hatred of the Republicans and the Lincoln administration. It insisted that slavery could not be prohibited by law. So obnoxious was this paper to Unionists that it was denied circulation in some cities. In 1863 the press was raided by a hateful mob.
Eight pages, some loss to the lower right corner affects a few words on the back leaf only, otherwise good condition.
