April 15, 1865

SACRAMENTO DAILY UNION, California, April 15, 1865

* End of the Civil War
* Rare Old west title

While almost all newspapers in the country were reporting Lincoln's assassination on this day, the telegraphic news had obviously yet to arrive in Sacramento as there is no mention. In fact the front page has a lengthy letter of: "The Workingmen's Association to President Lincoln" and the page 2: "News of the Morning" makes no reference to the assassination. Page 2 also has much on the closing moments of the Civil War including: "Rejoicings in Sherman's Army on the News of the Capture of Richmond" & "the Terms offered by Grant to Lee--Understanding between the Two Generals" and more.
Four pages, a few very minor archival mends inside, very nice condition.
