THE UNITED STATES MAGAZINE, Philadelphia, November, 1779  In the entirely of the Revolutionary War only two American magazines existed, they being this one and the "Pennsylvania Magazine" which published in Philadelphia as well, from January, 1775 thru July, 1776. The "United States Magazine" was the only American magazine which published during the heart of the war and lasted but one year from January thru December, 1779, the next such attempt not being until October, 1783 when the war was essentially over.
The issue being with a continuation of a: "Circular Letter from the Congress" which concerns the financial aspects of the war with England, it concluding in the last several pages of this issue where it is signed in type: John Jay, President. Also a lengthy item introduced as: "The Constitution or Form of Government agreed to & Resolved upon by the Delegates & Representatives of the several Counties & Corporations of Virginia. In a general Convention held at Williamsburgh on the 6th of May & continued by Adjournment to the 5th of July, 1776" in which they declare independence from England, and much more.
This is followed by: "A Declaration of Rights & the Constitution & Form of Government agreed to by the Delegates of Maryland in Free & Full Convention Assembled." which takes nearly 18 pages. This is followed by: "Thoughts on the Necessity of War".
Complete in 32 pages, wide, untrimmed margins, measures 5 1/2 by 8 1/2 inches, full title/contents page, great condition.
