February 20, 1863

THE DAILY EXPRESS, Petersburg, Virginia, Feb. 20, 1863  Petersburg was a critical city to the Confederacy, located not far south of the capital of Richmond, and the focus of a six month long siege which ended in early April, 1865, when Lee withdrew his troops from Petersburg and urged Jefferson Davis to remove the capital from Richmond. The war would end shortly thereafter.
The ftpg. has: "Late Northern News--Official Report of the Rebel Repulse at Fort Donelson--The Gunboats Save the Port" "Confederate Congress" "From North Carolina" and a few smaller item. & subheads. The bkpg. has: "From The North" "Caleb Cushing" & subhead: "President' Davis' Message In Europe" & other items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper, damaged by two holes near the central fold & some loss at the bottom as well, hence a defective issue.
