THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1746  Near the beginning of the issue is: "Court Martial Sentence of Capt. Burrish" and "Sentence on Capt. Edmund Williams of the Royal Oak". There is content concerning the Jacobite Rebellion including: "Carlisle Invested by the Duke of Cumberland" followed by: "Description of Carlisle Castle". Also is: "Accounts of the Progress of the King's Forces in Scotland from the London Gazette".
Two pages are taken up with a list of: "Ships Taken by the French & Spaniards" with several mentions of ships bound to or from America (photos show only portions). Nearly a page is taken up with: "A Short View of Mr. Watson's Treatise on Electricity".
Among many articles in this issue are: "Account of the Ancient French Theatre" "Preamble to Act for settling an Additional Revenue on his Royal Highness the Duke of Cumberland." "The humble Address of the People called Quakers..." "Cape Breton Tenable Against the Power of France" "Remarks on our Right to Cape Breton" "The Spirit & Principles of Rebellion" and much more.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe. Included in these reports are more accounts concerning the Jacobite Rebellion.
Complete in 56 pages, measures 5 1/4 by 8 1/4 inches, with full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, and is in good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
