Very rare "California Edition" of the New York Herald...
Item # 609274
February 20, 1855
THE NEW YORK HERALD--Edition For California, Feb. 20, 1855 The noted designation is printed in the dateline. With much emigration to the West with the Gold Rush the Herald created a special edition of their newspaper specifically for distribution in California. Noted on page 4: "Edition For California - Steamship Illinois" the ship which would carry the newspaper to The West Coast. The newspaper is lacking in any advertisements (useless given readership was 3000 miles away), filled with news and much "Maritime Intelligence".
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition. A very rare edition of this newspaper as obviously printed in smaller numbers & rarely found on the East Coast.
