THE AMERICAN MUSEUM, Philadelphia, April, 1787

* General George Washington
* re. Newburgh Conspiracy Address

This is the "second edition" printed in 1789, as noted on the title/contents page (see). One of the more successful American magazines of the 18th century, in fact one of a relatively few which survived more than a few years.
The issue begins with: "Address of the convention Held at Annapolis in Sept., 1786" signed in type by: John Dickinson. Also in the issue: "A View of the Federal Government of American. Its Defects & a Proposed Remedy" "On the Establishment of a Mint in Rhode Island" "On the Establishment of Free Schools" and more.
Of significance is the full text of: "General Washington's Address to the American Army" which is his response to the infamous Newburgh Address. Officers of the army were upset about Congress not honoring the salary & pension promises. Washington's letter advised moderation & patience & promised expeditious congressional action to resolve the solders' demands.
Complete in 78 pages, disbound, full title page, contents page at the back, 4 3/4 by 7 3/4 inches, nice condition.
