The prime content would be what takes over half of the back page concerning the case of William Mumford (see hyperlink). Included are various: "Important Correspondence Between the Rebel General Lee and General Halleck & General McClellan", concerning: "Rebel Retaliatory Measures". There are 3 letters signed in type: R. E. Lee.
Much other war-related content inside including: "War News of the Week" "The Negro Soldiers a Failure and the Project Abandoned" "The Negro Riots & Their Cause" & so much more.
Eight pages, mouse-chewing to the lower left corner affects just a few words on page 4 only, otherwise nice.
Described as "The Hottest Rebel Sheet to be found in the North or the South", this newspaper opposed the war and attracted the hatred of the Republicans and the Lincoln administration. It insisted that slavery could not be prohibited by law. So obnoxious was this paper to Unionists that it was denied circulation in some cities. In 1863 the press was raided by a hateful mob.
