October 02, 1860

THE STATES AND UNION, Washington, D.C., Oct. 2, 1860  Certainly one of the more uncommon titles of the period, in fact I don't recall having offered it before. The top of page 2 has a notice supporting: "For President, Stephen A. Douglass..." (see). An item on page 3 notes that: "The States and Union...is conducted with an exclusive regard to the principle of the State-rights Democracy, and is independent of factions and unbiased by partial interests." Also an article: "Smoothing the Way for Lincoln" which has interesting commentary on the likelihood of Lincoln being elected, and what afterwards (see).
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, nice condition.
