Item # 606844
October 13, 1927
THE SCRANTON TIMES, Pennsylvania, Oct. 13, 1927 The banner headline announces: "2 FLIERS RESCUED OFF AZORES" and subhead: "Crew of American Girl Picked Up by Dutch Ship; Forced Down By Accident After Traveling About 2,000 Miles" with more. This was the attempt of actress Ruth Elder to prove that a woman could do what Charles Lindbergh did a few months prior. It was viewed by many as more of a publicity stunt to revive her acting career (see hyperlink for much more). The article includes a large photo of her as well, headed: "Rescued After Daring Flight Over Atlantic" (see).
