July 22, 1861

THE NEW YORK HERALD, July 22, 1861

* 1st Battle of Bull Run - Manassas, Virginia
* 1st major land battle of the Civil War (historic)

Half of the first column on the ftpg. is taken up with great heads on the first major battle of the Civil War, the Battle of  Bull Run. The heads include: "A GREAT BATTLE" "BRILLIANT UNION VICTORY!" "Capture of Bull's Run Batteries" "The Rebels Routed & Driven Back to Manassas" "The Most Sanguinary Battle Ever Fought in America" "125,000 Men Engaged" "Twelve Hours Terrific Fighting" "Frightful Loss of Life on Both Sides" and more (see).
Their are various subheads on the front page on this battle as well, with the entire page taken up with detailed accounts carrying over to take most of the back page as well.
Much of the back page is actually a lengthy list of names of those involved in the battle (see for portions).
A very historic issue on the signal event in the Civil War, and great to have in this famous title with very extensive front page reporting.
Complete in 8 pages, very nice condition.
