March 22, 1886

DETROIT FREE PRESS, Michigan, March 22, 1886  Near the top of the front page is: "Capture Of Geronimo" "The Apache Outlaw, Whipped by Mexicans, Retreats to American Soil and Surrenders" "The Mexican Forces Threaten to Take the Prisoner by Force--A Collision Imminent" with the article noting various particulars. But the bottom of the article has a heading: "If The Following Is True The Above Is False" with a report from Tombstone noting: "...just arrived from San Bernardino ranch states that the soldiers' report of a battle with Apaches and surrender of Geronimo is untrue." Indeed it was. Geronimo would did not surrender until September 4, 1886.
Eight pages, somewhat irregular at the blank spine, lightly toned, generally good condition.
