Page 3 has over a full column headed: "Slavery and Emancipation" which is fascinating reading & begins by reprinting text from another newspaper which is against emancipation, noting in part: "Free the blacks...and suppose the advice were taken by the Southern States...would it improve their condition? We reply...in the negative...can they ever be admitted to an equality, social & political, with the whites of this country?...whether he would admit negroes to his social parties--to his bed and board--on terms of perfect equality. If he would, he would not be likely to have many imitators..." and more. But the bulk of the article defends emancipation (see for portions), noting in part: "...all we now ask is that our fellow citizens of the South should learn that slavery cannot remain forever, & that it is their duty to provide for its extinction in a peaceable & orderly manner..." (see for portions).
Inside has 2 1/2 pages taken up with details on: "The Opening of the Erie Railroad".
Eight pages, a few creases, very nice condition.
