THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 16, 1963  The front page of this issue has a three column, three line headline "Birmingham Bomb Kills 4 Negro Girls In Church; Boy Slain In Protest Riot" with subhead "14 Hurt in Blast" "Police Are Attacked -- City Plea to Wallace Brings In Troopers". This includes a photo on the front page as well as additional photos inside the issue. An additional article "Full-Scale F.B.I. Hunt On In Birmingham Bombing" begins on the front page and continues inside.
An article on page 26 "Dr. King Is Going To Birmingham" "Will Plead for Nonviolence -- Urges Kennedy Act". Dr. King was in contact with both President Kennedy and Gov. Wallace. An additional article "Birmingham Negroes Victims Of 21 Bombings in Last 8 Years" "20 Hurt Previously, but None Killed -- Churches, Homes on 'Dynamite Hill,' Former White Area, Main Targets".
