WESTERN SENTINEL, Winston, North Carolina, August 29, 1862

* Rare Confederate title
* Jefferson Davis

On the back page of this rare Confederate title is the “President’s Message. To the Senate and House of Representatives of the Confederate States.” In his message President Davis discusses various concerns confronting the Confederacy. The message, which takes three columns and concludes in the last, closes with: "...We have never ceasing cause to be grateful for the favor with which God has protected our infant Confederacy...”, signed in type: Jefferson Davis.
The front page has: “Flag Presentation” “From the Brave to the Fair” which has a letter presenting a federal flag captured at Cynthiana to the wife of a member of the Confederate Congress, plus her gracious reply.
Page 3 has a regulation concerning the pay of deceased soldiers, and a list of rules concerning the examination of Conscripts, plus a report: “Morgan’s Last Expedition”. Page 3 also has two reward notices for military deserters.
Four pages, has the subscriber’s name written above the masthead, very nice condition.
