THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, April 21, 1774
* Pre Revolutionary War tensions
Over two-thirds of page four is taken up with: "An Abstract of the Bill for the better Regulating the Government of the province of Massachusetts Bay in North America", which is a great analysis of this controversial Act of Parliament. The author examines the Act clause by clause (see).
Another very nice article takes half a page and begins: "The sum of the petitions with all that is advanced in favour of the Americans, amounts to this, that their love and loyalty will not survive a taxation. From thenceforward we are to expect marks of their resentment..." which would be a gross understatement. Fine reading (see).
Yet another report form "Parliamentary Proceedings" notes: "That on Tuesday next that House would resolve itself into a Committee to take into consideration the 3d per pound weight laid upon teas in all his Majesty's dominions in America..." (see)
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches, red ink tax stamp on page 2, nice condition.
