NEW YORK TIMES, July 16, 1871

* Thomas "Tad" Lincoln death
* President Abraham Lincoln's son

Near the bottom of the front page is a report from Chicago headed: "Death of 'Tad' Lincoln--His Mother Inconsolable", noting: "Thomas Lincoln, universally known as Tad Lincoln, the youngest son of the late President, died at the Clifton House at Chicago...of dropsy of the heat, aged 18 years...During his illness his mother has been his almost constant attendant...Mrs. Lincoln is almost completely prostrated by her affliction." In addition to the assassination of her husband, this was her third child to die, and it is believed the death of Tad contributed to her depression and being institutionalized.
Eight pages, a little spine wear, otherwise very nice condition.
