THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 22, 1769

* Pre Revolutionary War

An inside page has a report from Boston concerning the governor's statement that he has: "...no authority over his Majesty's ships in this port, or his troops within this town and...can give no orders for the removal of the same..." with the citizens commenting: "...It is then a power without any check here, & therefore it is so far absolute. An absolute power which has the sword constantly in its hand, may exercise a rigorous severity whenever it pleases..." with more. It is followed by the governor's response (see). All this text takes close to a full page.
