Secretariat wins... pre-Triple Crown...

Item # 599421

August 17, 1972

THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 17, 1972

* Secretariat wins Sanford Stakes
* Very 1st major win - 2 year old
* Pre-Triple Crown horse races

The sport's section (page 45) has a two column headline: "Secretariat Wins at Spa; Linda's Chief Is Second". This is 1st report coverage on Secretariat winning his very first major race which was the Sanford Stakes in Saratoga Springs, New York. Great to have in this famous NYC title. I would suspect this to be a very rare issue since Secretariat was not a household name as of yet and there was no reason for anyone to hold on to this particular issue. I would also suspect not many newspapers reported this race.

Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in a 64 pages, never bound, minor foxing, generally nice condition.
