July 10, 1865

HOUSTON TRI-WEEKLY TELEGRAPH, Texas, July 10,1865  Texas  newspapers from the Civil War era are exceedingly rare and we've only had a small number in our 35 years. This issue is from just 4 weeks after the battle of Palmito Ranch in Texas, the last battle of the Civil War, actually fought more than a month after Lee's surrender. Not surprisingly there are some war-related items.  Inside items include: "From the Rio Grande" "The Confederate Armstrong Gun--Affairs at Richmond" "Texas News Items" "A Supposed Letter from Mrs. Lee" and more.
Four pages, loss at the bottom causes loss of the last 2 or 3 lines of each page, otherwise good condition.
