COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Sept. 8, 1790 The entire front page & part of pg. 2 are taken up with a portion of an Act of Congress for the collection of duties, continued in a future issue. This is followed by a fascinating letter datelined Mount Vernon, July 31, 1788 & signed in type by: G. Washington. This nearly column-long letter is his thoughtful response to an inquiry as to just how the coordination of the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown transpired, in relation to the French assistance (see). Page 2 also has: "Dr. Franklin" which begins: "The frequenters of the Caffe Procope, the famous literary coffee-house at Paris, have distinguished themselves in an extraordinary manner in expressing their veneration for the character of the late Dr. Benjamin Franklin, & their sorrows for his death..." with more (see).
Page 3 mentions: "The degree of Doctor of Laws was conferred, at the late commencement at Providence, on GEORGE WASHINGTON, President of the United States..." .
Four pages, nice condition.
