October 17, 1774

ARIS'S BIRMINGHAM GAZETTE, England, Oct. 17, 1774

* General Thomas Gage
* Pre Revolutionary War tensions

The front page has a report from Boston during this critical time which includes a very prophetic statement: "There are at present about 2400 well disciplined troops in and about Boston...Madness, distraction, and rebellion fill the people & I expect direful consequences..." with more. Also on the ftpg. is a report that the governor published a Proclamation warning the citizens of Boston to not attend a referenced meeting of merchants to protest the Acts of Parliament, etc. The text of the Proclamation is included, signed in type: T. Gage.
Page 2 has a full column taken up with American news (see).
Four pages, folio size, partial red tax stamp on the ftpg., nice condition.
