NEW YORK TIMES, February 19, 1979  The front page of the sport's section has a banner headline: "Petty Wins Daytona After Leaders Crash on Last Lap" with photos of the crash and Richard Petty. Coverage continues on a following page with a photo of the infamous fight.
A first report coverage of the 1979 Daytona 500 in which Bobby Allison & Cale Yarborough collided on the last lap and then confronted each other live on TV. Critics consider the 1979 Daytona 500 to be the most important race in stock car history. NASCAR would significantly rise in popularity due to this race.
