EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Sept. 4, 1776  Pages 2 & 3 have some content relating to the Revolutionary War including: "...that General Howe had landed near Amboy in the province of Jersey & had marched to invest New York...that a skirmish happened between the advanced guard & some provincials, in which the latter were worsted & several taken prisoners...from Lord Howe...that a negociation had taken place between him & the Americans & that the town of Lancaster was agreed on for a meeting to settle the preliminaries of peace, which it is hoped will produce a new era of prosperity & glory both to Great Britain and her colonies...the majority of the Americans anxiously wish for a reconciliation..." (see).
