July 07, 1863

THE LOWELL DAILY COURIER, Massachusetts, July 7, 1863

* Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
* General George Meade victory

The top of page 2 has a report headed: "The War News - The Great Victory" which is an account of the Union victory at the historic Battle of Gettysburg, taking two-thirds of the column (see photos). Plus the editorial is concerning the victory, beginning: "The interest felt in the war news has not yet abated, and all eyes are today turned to the retreating enemy in Pennsylvania...The victory is so far complete that the enemy attempts to 'skedaddle' without his wounded or the prisoners he captured on the first day of the fight..." with much more.

This is a damaged issue, as there is loss at the central fold, most near the spine, plus various chipping & loss at the folds, archival mends across the central fold, some foxing. Fortunately, as the photos show, there is very little effect to the Gettysburg text.

Complete in four pages, this issue has never been bound nor trimmed.
