THE EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, Sept. 2, 1780 Page 2 has several reports from New York on the Revolutionary War including: "...the unwearied resolution of the inhabitants...upon every occasion to second the attempts of the royal army to suppress the rebels...several redoubts were thrown up on the east end of Long Island to secure the inhabitants from begin disturbed by foraging parties of the enemy." and further on: "...gives the fullest contradiction to the reports of any jealousies having appeared between Washington, his officers and men, or the Congress; that Washington's plan was to keep on the defensive...that the loss of Charlestown was severely felt..." with more (see).
Elsewhere on page 2 is "America" with item from New York & elsewhere, including on item: "...last accounts from North Carolina are that a few days after the receipt of the reduction of Charlestown [Charleston] arrived at New Bern...the Whigs were struck with amazement as they imagined the place was impregnable; that as soon as Lords Cornwallis moved towards Cape Fear, the hot ones...fled to the back country..." and more (see).
